NBTHK Hozon Mid Edo(1650-1660) sword by Hoki no Kami Fujiwara no Hirotaka 伯耆守藤原汎隆

<Swordsmith and sword feature>
Hoki no Kami Fujiwara no Hirotaka 伯耆守藤原汎隆 was a representative swordsmith of Echizen Shimosaka school 越前下坂派 (Echizen - north part of current Fukui prefecture), and leaned under Michimoto Kanetane 道本兼植.
He was active around Meireki era (1655?1658).
Hirotaka was a renowned swordsmith whose skills were ranked in the upper third of the swordsmiths of his era.
Half of Mei(signature) of this sword was cut because the Tang was shortened (Suriage) however its authenticity and historical value has been kept well.
It is a nice collectible piece with a good Togi condition. The NBTHK certificate was issued in 2006.
It has an ordinary blade weight and a width, Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune 鎬造り庵棟. The curve is shallow and the blade top is Nakamine.
<Hada - Forging>
The jihada (body of the sword) is a tightly forgedItame and coarse Jinie(darkish crystal)granule attaches on the surface.
<Hamon - Temper patterns>
The Hamon is Gunome with Togariba 尖り刃 and bright and clear Nioiguchi 匂口. Boshi- temper line of the tip is Midarekomi(wavy) with rich Hakikake activities and turns back to a gentle curl called Komaru.
<Nakago - Tang>
The Tang is shortened (Suriage) and has Sujichigai file marks. Nakago end was cut streight.
Gold gilded, solid copper single piece Habaki in Kashu style.
<Koshirae - Mountings>
