<Swordsmith and sword feature>
Smith Moriatsu 薩州住源盛篤, real name was Fujita Shinichi 藤田新一, was born in 1934 in Kagoshima prefecture and lerned under the first Moriatsu. He was also a disciple of Kongo Hyoe Moritaka 金剛兵衛盛高 and had been a leading swordsmith in Satsuma area.

This sword was originally made as a display piece and it was mounted with a new Koshirae before we brought in( We had the Tsuka re-wrapped before uploading to our websites).
We would like to recommend this sword to Iai practitioners as it has a light weight and takes a wonderful balance.

Despite the wide blade shows a stout appearance 豪壮, it has an ordinary blade weight. Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune 鎬造り庵棟. The curve is Toriizori style and the blade top is Nakamine 鳥居反り中鋒.
There are Katachiri Bohi(thick groove which extends to shinogi,leaves flat space only on Mune side) on both side of the blade.

<Hada - Forging>
The jihada (body of the sword) is a Itame with running tendencies and coarse Jinie( 地沸 darkish crystal)granule attaches on the surface.

<Hamon - Temper patterns>
The Hamon is Gunome 互の目 with abundant Ashi 足 activities.
Boshi- temper line of the tip is Notarekomi with rich Hakikake activities and turns back to a gentle curl called Komaru.

<Nakago - Tang>
The Tang is Ubu(original) and has Kesho(decorative) file marks. Nakago end is Sotoba shape 卒塔婆形.

<Habaki-Metal collar>
Solid silver base, double layered Habaki

Front: Sesshu Ju Minamoto Moriatsu Tsukuru 薩州住源盛篤作 Back: Showa 54nen Shogatsu Kichijitsu(1979, New year, an auspicious day 昭和五十四年正月吉日
