<Swordsmith and sword feature>
Swordsmith Akamatsu Taro Kanehiro 赤松太郎兼裕, real name Kimura Kaoru 木村馨, was born in 1961 in Kumamoto 熊本 prefecture.
His father is swordsmith Kimura Kaneshige 木村兼重 and smith Kanetsugu 兼嗣 and Kaneteru 兼照 are his elder brothers.
The Kimura (Akamatsu) family had served for generations for Sagara Daimyo of Higo 肥後.
They have developed their original forging style and very uniquely, they also have been making the Japanese sword material - "Tamahagane 玉鋼" from river sand iron for their globally known Akamatsu Taro swords.
They work according to the style of famed Minamoto Kiyomaro 源清麿.
This piece was oviously custom made for an Budo practitioner according to the Mei "Bushido 武士道" and it seemed to be kept as a display sword judging from its condition - there were no trace of practical use since it was made.
The future is strong, stout and well balanced. This sword gives a very light feel to users and it was fitted tightly, just ready for Iai practices.
This wide, stout blade has ordinary weight, Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune. The blade top is Nakamine.
There are Katachiri Bohi(thick groove which extends to shinogi,leaves flat space only on Mune side) on both side of the blade.
<Hada - Forging>
The jihada (body of the sword) is a tightly forged Mokume (burl wood grain) and coarse Jinie(darkish crystal) granule attaches on the surface.
<Hamon - Temper patterns>
The Hamon is Choji with abundant Ashi activities.
Ginsuji 銀筋(whitish silver line) shows up along the cutting edge while Inazuma 稲妻 runs through along the temper line.
Boshi- temper line of the tip is Midarekomi(wavy) with rich Hakikake activities and turns back to a gentle curl called Komaru.
<Nakago - Tang>
The Tang is Ubu(original) and has Sujigai file marks. Nakago end is Kurijiri shape.
Gold gilded, two layers of copper Habaki which was made to fit tightly to Bohi grooves.
<Koshirae - Mountings>
