Swordsmith Nobuhide 伯耆住延秀, real name Maeda Hideshi前田秀志 who was born in 1928 lives in Hino province in Tottori prefecture.
His teacher was his father smith Yoshiteru義輝(real name Kitaro Maeda 前田喜太郎) who was a disciple of Tadayoshi Kawashima川島忠善.
Swords by award-wining smith Nobuhide are highly regarded among practitioners of iaido and battojutsu.
Actor Lee Murayama who appeared in the movie "Last Samurai" also is a famous Budoka has been using Nobuhide sword when he performs Battodo here in Japan and abroad .
In 1998 Mr.Mitsushiro Saruta made the Guinness record of the fastest Tameshigiri/ Shizan which was to cut 1000 rolled straw mats without failing with a single blow. He successfully made it in 1hour 36 minutes 36 second.
For this Guinness record challenge he used his favorite sword made by swordsmith Nobuhide which you can see in the video.
Youtube - Mr.Saruta - Original Senbongiri Guinness World Record
This sword was made a year after Mr.Saruta's Guinness record. We have upgraded the Koshirae - repaired Tsuka, fitted a new Kanagu set, a new Habaki and re-coated the Saya.
It seems like the previous owner used this Shinken just for Iai practice and it was never been used for Tameshigiri.
This is a very good chance to own an authentic Owazamono.
It has an ordinary blade weight and a width, Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune. The curve is Toriizori style and the blade top is Nakamine.
There are Katachiri Bohi(thick groove which extends to shinogi,leaves flat space only on Mune side) on both side of the blade.
<Hada - Forging>
The jihada (body of the sword) is a tightly forged Mokume (burl wood grain) and coarse Jinie(darkish crystal)granule attaches on the surface.
Chikei activities appears here and there.
<Hamon - Temper patterns>
The Hamon is Notare base mixed with KoChoji and there are abundant activities called Ashi.
In the Hamon Suna-nagashi shows it's flowing sand-like pattern while Kinsuji(whitish golden line) runs through along the cutting edge.
Boshi- temper line of the tip is Notarekomi with Hakikake activities and turns back to a gentle curl called Komaru.
<Nakago - Tang>
The Tang is Ubu(original) and the end is Haagari(irregular) Kurijiri shape.
Solid silver single piece Habaki in the Shonai style(new).
