<Swordsmith and sword feature>
Swordsmith Kiyotsugu 清次, real name Matsunaga Genrokuro 松永源六郎 was born in 1948 and has been producing blades which have regularly been awarded prizes at the annual national competitions
He formalized the art of Kobudo Shodai Ryu Zanshi Genseikai古武道小岱流斬試源清会 which can be directly translated as - Traditional Budo Shodai Ryu Tameshigiri Gensei school - in 1999 and has been dedicating in training his Japanese and international students in his Genseikai dojo.
He currently leads the members of his dojo to various events and festivals throughout Kyushu in order to demonstrate their art of Budo and promoting traditional Japanese culture.
His English website explains well about his approach through sword forging, trainings and cooperation with university laboratories. Matsunaga Genrokuro
He believes that each of his swords should be capable of cutting well and last for at least 1,000 years, hence winning competitions is not his main concern, according to his web site.
Kobudo Shodai Ryu Zanshi
Altough this sword is a wonderful art piece which shows a Matsukawa Hada and a Sudareba(which resembles brush strokes, or a bamboo curtain, based on suguba or a shallow notare), it is also an ideal, balanced Iai shinken which gives a very light feel to practitioners. Giheiya also re-wrapped its Tsuka (a new Tsukamaki) with a dark brown leather in Morohineri-maki style.
It has an ordinary blade weight and a width, Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune. The curve is Toriizori style and the blade top is Nakamine.
There are Katachiri Bohi(thick groove which extends to shinogi,leaves flat space only on Mune side) on both side of the blade.
<Hada - Forging>
Itame hada with Chikei becomes unique and beautiful Smatsukawa hada, also becomes a Masa with streaming tendancies along the cutting edge.
<Hamon - Temper patterns>
The Hamon is Gunome which resembls small red beans with plenty of Ashi feets(vertical notches) then becomes Sudareba along the Masame Hada on the cutting edge.
<Nakago - Tang>
The Tang is Ubu(original) and has Sujigai file marks. Nakago end is Kurijiri shape.
Two piece of silver gilded copper & solid silver Habaki.
